GLP-1

A class of drugs (semaglutide and kin) that mimic the GLP-1 hormone to regulate appetite and blood sugar — and increasingly studied for effects well beyond weight and diabetes.

GLP-1 agonists cracked the behaviour-change problem that defeated decades of lifestyle interventions, which is why they reshaped metabolic medicine so fast.

The open question is breadth: trials keep surfacing effects on cardiovascular risk, inflammation, and even markers of aging. How much is real, durable benefit versus downstream of weight loss is still being worked out.
