Claude for Small Business

Anthropic repointed its enterprise agent engine at solo business owners on May 13, bundling 15 ready-to-run workflows — invoice chaser, month-end prepper, tax organizer — with first-party connectors to seven tools including QuickBooks, at no charge beyond a paid Claude plan.

On May 13 Anthropic shipped Claude for Small Business: a toggle inside its Cowork product that hands a sole proprietor 15 pre-built, multi-step agent plays wired into QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, DocuSign, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. Pick "month-end prepper" or "invoice chaser" from a menu and Claude runs the work the way a bookkeeper or an enterprise tool used to.

The enterprise version of the same engine shipped with its autonomy promise "mostly premature" — by Anthropic's own head of Americas.

Nothing here is a new capability. This is the same engine Anthropic launched in February as an enterprise IT product — admin marketplaces, scheduled agents — repackaged for someone with no IT department and no appetite for assembling integrations. There is no new tier: it runs on any paid plan, starting at the $20 Pro floor. The honest sticker is steeper, though, since every connector assumes you already pay for the tool it plugs into; a typical solo stack runs closer to $1,500 a year.

The buried story is reliability. The enterprise version of this engine shipped three months earlier with its headline promise broken — scheduled tasks only ran if your laptop stayed awake, and a tester hit a manual approval prompt on every action, with Anthropic's own head of Americas calling the autonomy "mostly premature." The new product leans into that: every workflow is owner-initiated and approval-gated, the user signs off before anything is sent, posted or paid. Sold as a safety feature, it is also a quiet admission — the "employee that works while you sleep" still needs you awake to click yes. The land-grab is on regardless: Microsoft shipped a competing small-business Copilot bundle two weeks later.
